Abstract
This study proposes an innovative methodology to enhance creativity and critical thinking in furniture design education by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) tools with narrative literature from renowned Egyptian novels—rich in cultural, historical, and philosophical themes—to inspire design. Meanwhile, AI facilitates idea generation, rapid prototyping, and problem-solving. The methodology combines qualitative literary analysis with AI-assisted design techniques, fostering innovation in teaching culturally responsive and emotionally engaging furniture design. The research aimed to address students’ challenges in articulating ideas through manual sketching or complex design software by leveraging generative AI tools to translate insights from literary narratives into innovative furniture design concepts. The methodology involved selecting culturally significant literary works, employing AI to extract thematic values, generate ideas, visualize prototypes, and evaluate design alternatives. A survey of 45 students who engaged with the proposed approach revealed that AI tools significantly reduced design time, enhanced creativity, and improved output quality. Key findings indicated that 78% of students found AI effective in conceptualization, while 82% reported improved cultural integration in their designs. The study concludes that AI-supported methodologies can bridge technical skill gaps while deepening conceptual engagement by evoking emotion and extracting value from cultural narratives in design education
