Abstract

This research contributes to the reuse of used clothes to produce clothes for teenagers, as they are in a stage in where rapid physical changes occur. So, they need a quick change in clothing sizes. As fashion changes, the life cycle of clothes ends, which leads to a lot of clothes being wasted without benefit. Consumers dispose of clothes in ways that are not safe for the environment. In this study, three design collections were prepared for different types of used clothes to reuse them and produce clothing for teenagers from 11 to 14 years old, with the addition of handicrafts such as direct drawing techniques and hand embroidery. These designs achieve sustainability, encourage small projects, and reduce the consumption of raw materials and energy, and achieve economic efficiency. The first group reused the skirt and top, the second group reused the blouse, and the third group reused the dress. There was found from survey the opinion of experts that the second group is the best. These group of designs obtained the highest quality coefficient in most evaluation objectives, because it achieved reuse of clothes at a low manufacturing cost. It also achieved high economic value, preserved family income, and achieved the principle of sustainability and environmental preservation. From a practical point of view, the possibility of reusing used clothes at a low manufacturing cost can meet the continuous need for clothes due to the rapid physical change at the beginning of adolescence.
